Standing in at last mintue for Jose Tejedor I enjoyed very much playing Aidan O Rourke's new piece 92.4 degrees at the Tolbooth (15/03/07) with a great band comprising Aidan, Harald Haugaard, Dave Milligan, Donald Hay and Simon Thoumire. Here's hoping it gets played again soon.

----------------------------------------

09/04/07 Old Blind Dogs 15th Anniversary concert at Aberdeen's Lemon Tree to start the Rootin Aboot festival. Past and present members of the band trying to remember songs and tunes they've completely forgotten... followed by another gig, hopefully getting it right this time, (10/04/07) in the Universal Hall, Findhorn where the concert will be filmed, making a DVD of the occasion. Should be great fun, looking forward to seeing various people after what's been quite a few years.

Before the Wolf is a performance featuring over thirty top musicians from all over Europe. Playing instruments from their respective country which are not typically heard together - hurdy gurdies from France, cornetas from Spain and of course, bagpipes from Scotland - they will converge to perform a new, specially composed score from Jim Sutherland, performing under the name La Banda Europa, they will be joined by 200 singers and 25 snare drummers for the Grand March finale. Big In Falkirk, Falkirk, Sunday 6th May 2007

-------------------------------------

The first foray of the new year turned out to be in New York at the Apap music conference courtesy of the British Council Scotland. Other Scottish acts showcasing along our band were Blazing Fiddles and Julie Fowlis. Quite a weekend, really. Always an impressive place Manhatttan... wouldn't like to live there though.

Another welcome opportunity to perform some of Martyn Bennett's music with McFalls Chamber group at the Queens Hall, Edinburgh on 26th Oct 06. See review in the Scotsman and the Fruitmarket in Jan 07: the Herald

March 2006 - a two week residency at Dancebase in Edinburgh's grassmarket working with Frank McConnell dancer/choreographer. Joining Frank and I were musicians Graeme Stephen (guitar) David Robertson (percussion) Guy Nicholson (percussion and Mario Caribe (Bass). The successful result, a thirty minute piece titled 'Far Horizons', was recently performed again at Aberdeen's Lemon Tree part of the DanceLive festival. 'Far Horizons' will be performed again at the Strath Spe Away Festival, Kingussie on Nov 11th 2006.

Check out a short clip of Graeme Stephen and myself playing 'Eitnach' from our May 06 gig in Asturias, Spain on Youtube.

Fraser Fifield Band: A new phase in Traditional Scottish, Jazz and World Music linkage is being unveiled by gifted multi-instrumentalist Fraser Fifield. Leading on low whistle, soprano sax and bagpipes, Fifield doesn't "so much fuse diiferent styles as sublimate the need for such distinction" (Herald). The hugely talented band features Fifield's long term colleague, guitarist Graeme Stephen, who is emerging as a major name in his own right in the UK jazz scene. Playing tabla, cajon, conga, bodhran, shekere, kalimba and other instruments, percussionists David Robertson (also of Capercaillie) and Guy Nicholson provide texture, groove and stylistic influence from a global ticket that takes you from Cuba back to Scotland then far out East. Playing original compositions and some striking re-working of old traditional melodies the group has one of the most distinctive sounds on the folk/roots scene, identifiably Scottish yet global in it's appeal to music lovers.
