Scots Trad Music Awards Nomination - Voting Now Open
I'm delighted to have been nominated in the category 'instrumentalist of the year' in this years MG Alba Scot Trad Music Awards.
Voting is open to the public from 2nd to 20th November. You can vote either online or by downloading a form.
If you think I may be a worthy recipient please encourage do please vote and encourage your friends to get involved and vote also.
The overall aim of the awards is to heighten both media and public awareness of our diverse and wonderful music scene.
The Awards ceremony and Gala concert take place in Dumfries on Sat 28th November at the venue DG1.
I would have been going down to Dumfries anyway on the 28th to perform a couple of songs at the ceremony with the great singer Donnie Munro, so this makes the trip all the more worthwhile!
Best of luck to all the other nominees in the various categories.

Take 5 produced by Serious Music
I'm delighted to have been chosen to take part in the forthcoming edition of Take Five - a professional development scheme with a difference, designed to give some of the UKs most talented young jazz musicians the unique opportunity to take time out to develop their craft. Now in its sixth year, Take Five provides each artist with the special chance to discuss, explore and strengthen all aspects of their future careers.
The eight participating musicians are:
James Allsopp (Saxophones and Clarinets, London)
Tomas Challenger(Saxophones, London)
Kit Downes (Piano, London)
Adam Fairhall (Piano, Cheshire)
Fraser Fifield (Pipes, Whistles and Saxophones, Fife)
Shabaka Hutchings(Saxophones and Clarinets, London)
Olivia Moore(Violin, Manchester)
Dave Smith (Drums, London)
The scheme centres around a residential week lead by the legendary musician and composer John Surman but also includes recording technology/production insights by another legend in his field, Tony Platt, alongside ongoing career advice/ideas from the organisers, who are inspirational in their field - Serious Music.
It's not too often in this life opportunities like this come along so I intend to grasp the opportunity fully and take from it all that I can and look forward to meeting the other musicians, none of whom I've met yet, and course leaders. I'll post further news of this exciting development in due course.
